What it is
A countdown to the end of your working week. It starts when your first shift of the week begins and finishes when your last shift ends, so you can see at a glance how much of the week is left.
The main circle
- The circle is split into 3-hour segments covering the time from the start of your first shift to the end of your last one.
- Green segments have passed, red ones are still to go, and the pulsing segment is where you are now. It fills with green clockwise as its time passes, like a small progress bar.
- The thin outer line shows where your shifts fall, so you can see the gaps between them.
- The middle shows the time left until your last shift ends, and underneath you'll see Working time left this week: just the shift hours still to work, not the gaps between shifts. If you've added breaks, it also shows the time left excluding breaks.
Three ways to count down
Use the buttons above the main circle to choose how it counts. Your choice is remembered.
- All time until the weekend: every hour from the start of your first shift to the end of your last one, nights and evenings included, in 3-hour segments.
- Work hours only: just your shift time, with evenings, nights and days off squeezed out. Each segment is one hour of work (30 minutes if your week is 12 hours or less, 2 hours if it's over 72), so the circle fills only while you're on shift. Breaks count as work time here and show as orange marks on the outer line.
- Work hours excluding breaks: the same, but your breaks are taken out too, so it's the time you actually spend working.
In the two work views the countdown pauses when you're not working. The circle stops pulsing and you'll see, for example, Off shift, next shift starts Mon 09:00 or On Lunch break, 12m left. Weekends and holidays look the same in every view, dancing cat included.
This week's shifts
Each shift gets its own small circle, split into hourly segments (or 30-minute segments for shifts of 4 hours or less). Each one shows whether the shift is:
- Upcoming: how long until it starts
- In progress: highlighted, with the time until it ends and your next break, for example Lunch break in 1h 20m. During a break the card turns orange and shows how long is left
- Finished: all green with a tick
- Holiday: the shift falls on a holiday, so it's skipped
Breaks show as orange marks around the outside of each shift's circle.
Breaks
- Each shift can have as many breaks as you need (up to 6). Use + Add break under a shift in Edit Dates and Times.
- New breaks are called 1st break, Lunch break and 2nd break, with suggested times you can change. You can rename any break, for example Tea or Meal break.
- A break has to fall inside its shift, and two breaks can't overlap. On a night shift, just enter the clock times, for example 02:00–02:30 on a 22:00–06:00 shift. The countdown knows it's after midnight.
- Copy these times to all shifts copies the first shift's breaks as well.
Holidays
- A second circle counts down to your next holiday, with a list of upcoming holidays and how many days away each one is.
- England and Wales bank holidays are added automatically from GOV.UK. If that can't be reached, a built-in list is used.
- Any shift that starts on a holiday, whether a bank holiday or one of your own, is skipped. It doesn't count towards the week countdown or the working time left.
Weekends and time off
Once your last shift of the week is over, or you're on holiday, the cat comes out to dance. The main circle then shows Weekend!, Week done! or Time off!, along with the time until your next shift starts.
How to set it up
Click Edit Dates and Times at the top of the page. In there you can:
- Add or remove shifts, choosing the day and the start and end times, and add breaks to each shift.
- Set up overnight shifts by giving an end time earlier than the start time (for example 22:00 to 06:00). The shift then finishes the next morning.
- Use Copy these times to all shifts to give every shift the same times and breaks as the first one (you can undo it straight away).
- Use Reset to default 9–5 Mon–Fri to start again.
- Add your own holidays with a name, a first day and an optional last day.
- Switch bank holidays off, or untick any bank holiday you work.
Done (or pressing Escape) saves your changes. Cancel discards them.
Sharing
Click Share to send someone a link to your countdown. On a phone this opens your usual share menu; on a computer the link is copied so you can paste it into a message. The link holds your shifts and holidays, so whoever opens it sees your week. Opening a shared link never changes their own saved times: they can choose Keep these times to save them, or Use my own to go back.
Your data
Your shifts, breaks, holidays and chosen view are saved only in this browser on this device. Nothing is sent anywhere. The only thing the page fetches is the public bank holiday list from GOV.UK. If you clear your browser data, or use a different browser or device, it goes back to the default 9–5 Monday to Friday.
